Dr. Craig Hassed is a GP, lecturer, and researcher at Monash University who specialises in integrative and mind-body medicine, medical ethics, and mindfulness-based stress medicine. A prolific writer, he is constantly publishing books, designing and delivering teaching and support programs nationally and internationally, and participating in research projects. Craig has published in fields such as epigenetics and psychoneuroimmunology, but some of his most influential work has been in mindfulness and mind-body medicine.

Craig is a distinguished teacher, having taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Monash University Department of General Practice for over 30 years. During that time, he led the inclusion of meditation into the medical curriculum at Monash University as an examinable subject, and co-wrote an online course on mindfulness as a collaborative project between Monash University and FutureLearn. With his students, he emphasises the utility of mindfulness meditation in medical practice as well as in personal stress reduction and focus.

Craig’s work in integrative mind-body medicine has not been restricted to teaching. Over career, he has explored stress management techniques, complementary therapies and integrative medicines, and ways to engage with these within the primary care context. He is passionate about innovations in medical education and balancing alternative knowledge systems against medical scientific epistemologies.
