This week is light on the news and heavy on the original pieces - if you want to read GP pieces that get under your skin and into your bones, read on….

In original pieces this week…

  • Dr. Rebecca wrote a powerful letter to Greg Hunt about the warnings being sent to GPs who bill Medicare for physical and mental health issues within the same consultation.

  • Dr. Louise Stone shared a more personal piece about being a doctor whose child is sick, coping with the challenges and the trauma that can bring.

  • Dr. Louise Stone, Dr. Christine Phillips, and Dr. Kirsty Douglas have shared their piece about sexual harassment in medicine, of doctors by doctors. This draws on their previous research, which you can view here, and is part of an ongoing project that expands the scope of their research to include contributions from international researchers.

  • We are also lucky to host a letter to Mr. Dutton with 350 GP signatures, voicing the frustrations of working in a healthcare system that simultaneously relies on compassion and giving, and makes it more difficult to give.

  • Prompts for March have now been emailed out to our wonderful human books. If you would like to join our list of contributors, or for us to promote a piece that your colleague wrote which really stuck with you, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Coming up…

We have even more original pieces in the works so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground!

If you know a spectacular GP, let us know! Shoot us an email at gplivinglibrary@gmail.com and we’ll work with them to add another Human Book to our shelves.

Happy reading!
