Prof Steve Trumble is a Melbourne GP and educator with a long history of facilitating GP cultural change and curriculum revision.  Currently head of medical education at Melbourne Medical School, he has been involved in a broad range of clinical, publishing, educational and advisory roles.

His passion for education began in 1991 when he completed an academic GP Registrar position at Monash University and established an academic unit to improve healthcare for people with developmental disabilities through clinical service, research and training for medical students and doctors.  He completed his research doctorate on the same topic in 2000 and has since used this expertise for improved patient outcomes in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and South-East Asia.

A state and later national director of the Australian GP Training Program, Steve moved from vocational training to medical student education in 2006 and currently oversees the MD medical course at Melbourne Medical School while remaining chair of the Minister of Health’s GP Training Advisory Committee.  He practises as a general practitioner in remote communities throughout the Northern Territory.
